I disagree. chasing your family with an ax is rather creepy :D. Luv this movie. I love the idea behind the shining but the book is to longwinded and the movie is to implicit. i get why so many think it is great but when you start to think about context while watching the movie, you realise you don't even know why jack wanted to go there in the first place or why he becomes so mentally insane, while his wife and child are not as impacted by the hotel apart from fear. the books explains these reasons but i got 350 pages in and put it down.

I am trying to memorize the scene and pull it on a random bartender. Shame this hasnt got more views. I remember watching this in high school. I ❤️ this movie. I can't wait to see Scream 5. The people who are saying Shelley's acting wasn't good, I find a contradiction there when I read that the director Stanley made her react a scene like over a hundred damn times. I guess Stanley was an idiot where his ridiculously large number of takes for her to do a scene over and over again, made her acting horrible then, so maybe the blame should have been placed on Stanley then.

Rob Ager (Collective Learning) has a lot of interesting takes on The Shining, worth checking out. To me, Kubrick is also my favorite director (if he wanted you to see something, it was in the frame) and this movie screws with my head due to it's impossible set design that your subconcious picks up, but you don't conciously register. Lloyd is the Devil, in my opinion, and Jack is selling his soul for a drink. 2:03 scariest part of the whole movie. Stanley Kubrick f*cked Stephen King's book big time. Casting was good, but the story got cut to shreds, and what was with that dumb @ss line "Here's Johnny. D@mn! Did he actually READ the book ? Heck he even knows his movie sucked because he forbade Stephen King from saying what he thought about Kubrick's adaptation (bastardization) in public ! Like I said, the casting WAS good, I'll give him that. Jack Nicholson played the part well. The actress that played Wendy was good too. Scatman Crouthers did well too. However, Kubrick put stuff in that wasn't in the book, and he ripped the ending of the book to shreds. Anyone who read the book knows the main character doesn't freeze to death in the story!
As far as I'm concerned, the only good movie Kubrick's made is "Full Metal Jacket. Don't waste your money on this movie, read the book instead! My review is REALLY. 100 out of 10.
